A peer-reviewed, mixed method academic study, conducted by the University of South Alabama, examined ostomy-related complication and their impacts on quality of life for ostomates. The study finds that leakage and peristomal skin irritation are common ostomy-related complications that have statistically significant impacts on the quality of life for patients following ostomy surgery.
Leakage
- 90% of ostomates surveyed reported experiencing leakage
